| Shenzhou was a Ming artist
and was born in Changzhou (modern Wuxian) of Jiangsu, with name
Qinan, nickname Shitian, also called Baishi master. He was good
at landscape painting, mixing with Dongyuan, Juran and the four
persons of Yuan, becoming the new stylist. He expanded his works
to the large space with the fourishing scenery, strong brushwork
and the vigorous and firm characters. Among the brushwork, the thin
drawing is cautious and thorough, while embodying the vigorous and
firm power, which was called "thin of Shen". Thus it can be seen
his great force at that period, soon he set up the "Wu faction",
which forming the "four famous artists in Ming dynasty" together
with Tangyin, Qiuying and his student Wen Zhengming. |
