With the increase of Shiwan pottery, the taste and art value of the pottery ran higher and higher instead of its practical value. Potters used the technique of Chinese painting into the pottery. There were two valuable points to show the figure pottery of Shiwan in Qing dynasty. One was the countenance, the other was the clothes. Eyes were the focus to express one's feeling. Traditional Shiwan pottery had already found a way of rubbing the eyeball and then filling into the eyes to show the figure more vivid. The Qing works of "blue clay figure", which had a typical countenance, is housed in Taiwan library. Shiwan pottery paid attention to the expression not only in people eyes, but in animal's. A famous man Huangbing in late of Qing was ever succeeded in scoring the expression of a cat using the way of rubbing the eyeball and then filling into the eyes. It was said that a mouse ran away when it saw this black pottery cat, which put on the desk.
